Early in the fifties the first FM receivers started to become routinely available on car radios. These receivers allowed many new radio channels to become accessible to the car radio listener. In the 1950s Ford Motor Company modified these FM receivers with the introduction of two buttons to search for stations on FM and AM frequencies. These buttons were labeled “town” and “Country.” The town button would get all local stations and country had a wider range.
As audio equipment and options began to expand so did the car radio. Radios were quickly offered in all vehicles. In the 1960s the eight track tape player was invented and began to be included on with some car radios. This was followed quickly by the cassette player and then later by the compact disk player. As technology advanced so did car radios. Soon cars and trucks boasted complete sound systems. Today these sounds systems have speakers, receivers, and different audio players that tend to become more advanced as the years go by.
